Erez Avny - Oil Painting

"More then anything, I feel the painting as Love, Color, Dreams, Passion, Movement and freedom." This is how Erez describes painting.

Erez started painting at the age of 21 when he returned from a trip to the far east.

After 4 years of painting, Erez went to study in "Bezalel Academy of Art and Design", Jerusalem. It turned out to be a big disappointment for him: "I discovered the meaning of freedom for myself as a man/human being, as an artist and the need to build the frame for myself and my work".

About the painting

  As a fencer Erez was attracted to motion/movement.

   As an autodidact he was drawn to explore the motion to the deepest level, to its core, also on canvas.

   As a hard of hearing from an early age, Erez uses visual communication and sight as a communication tool increased then usual.

"I grew up and was educated in a "normal" environment. I had to make up for the lack of hearing using more my other senses so I can hear and understand. It includes lips reading, body language, visual communication, all, was needed more then to the "hearing" person. The touch, smell, sight, sensitivity, sometimes exaggerated, to shape, color, touch and smell."

  Erez was drawn to exploration of color too. It's substance, its movements. His works are colorful, rich in shades and tones and it is possible to notice it's unique and richness of the color and the color process.
For Erez, painting is a bridge between physical worlds to the spiritual world, a bridge between states of material to state of spirit.

It expresses idea, stories, feeling and sensations.
At times painting demonstrates criticism about society. At times shows different ways of seeing and thinking.

Though it is irrelevant if Erez Avny is hard of hearing or fat or thin, has blond or curly hair…

He is a painter and that is what important.

Afterwards there is a story about a painter who is hard of hearing.
But that has no relevancy to Erez or his paintings...

In Any case it should have no bearing on this exhibition, as we do not know the motives behind this work of art. Each person has his own pain - his own smiles.

The important thing is that we see beautiful paintings first… and interesting.

And I hope that Erez will flourish like palm tree, as the song says…

And I'm sure he will get far…"
